4G DESIGN Launches Cost Cutting Solution For The Complete Carbon Lifecycle

Architects working on retail projects will now be able to benefit from a new one-stop service that can not only reduce store fixture costs, but can deliver on sustainable retail design, development and installation, all from the retail experts - 4G Design.

Developed with support from De Montfort University, 4G Design’s new ‘4-stage process’ is the first in the market to give retailers a proven and resource efficient means of designing and developing store equipment for the complete carbon lifecycle of fixtures – making costs not only more visible, but significantly reducing them too by challenging the retailer’s procurement process.

This unique package includes the design, sourcing, manufacture and installation of sustainable store fixtures, embracing a ‘cradle-to-cradle’ approach. As a result, your retail clients can expect to gain real cost savings typically up to 20 per cent in the first year rising to 55 per cent over a fixture’s five year lifespan.

Pete Dawes, Director, 4G Design, said: “Recent research from Ends Carbon has shown that private firms behind some of the UK’s major high street names – have either failed to report their carbon emissions or have no publicised reduction targets in place. This is surprising given that businesses are expected to cut carbon emissions by 34 per cent in 2020, if they are to reach national targets.

“Our unique approach challenges the simple notion of the carbon footprint by taking into account the complete carbon lifecycle of fixtures and fittings. It can be applied to a single fixture or an entire store, so retailers can make considerable progress thanks to a combination of commercialism and rigorous environmental investigation. It starts after your concept ideas are complete so the creative and operational integrity of a design is never compromised.”

The ‘4-stage process’ includes: value engineering at the design stage; assessing potential carbon impacts from materials used for their design; considering the entire life cycle or ‘Total Cost of Ownership’ and finally, selecting the right suppliers able to deliver a reliable, sustainable, accredited and cost effective supply chain. This is all possible thanks to 4G Design’s specially selected consortium of exemplar partner companies.

By putting your designs through each stage in turn, waste is minimised, processes are made simpler and sourcing becomes responsible – enabling retailers to maximise savings while still reducing carbon emissions.

Pete Dawes, continues: “We have worked with environmentally conscious blue chip companies for over 20 years, thanks to our strong blend of creative design, practical manufacturing and procurement expertise.

“Those retailers that have begun trialling the ‘4-Stage Process’ have begun to make informed choices on the sustainable profile of their fixtures, so they are safe in the knowledge that they are sourcing ethically, sustainably, competitively and are now challenging their procurement process.

“If you are serious about taking costs out and achieving better carbon management goals through good sustainable design, then 4G Design offers the best solution.”
